Art Opening at Gallery on 43rd Street

Mike Egan is a comtemporary folk artist from Pittsburgh, PA who has spent time working as an embalmer in funeral homes.  His paintings are acrylic paint, shellac, wood and nails.  They tell stories about death, devils and saints.  He is greatly influenced by the Day of the Dead, Halloween, horror films, churches, the German Expressionists and his time in funeral homes.

Hambone's Pub is hosting a community literary series this Sunday, that's part workshop, part open mic. Bring your journals and your writing, and meet with other writers to share and help each other with your works. The evening will start with a brief writing prompt to get everyone warmed up. Then, people will break into groups to have constructive supportive workshop sessions. MFA student and poet, Sara Emily Kuntz, will facilitate discussion and all are welcome to attend.

Valentine's Day is bringing new arrivals of cards by Libby DePalma of Cannonsburg and handknit scarves by Helene Stokan of Lawrenceville.  Helene's new scarves of soft yarns and pastel colors can easily be worn into the Spring.  And don't forget the newborn and toddlers!  A bumpercrop of baby hats by Karen Ruhloff of Lawrenceville has been delivered and I have a feeling there are more being knit.  Another suggestion for that special Valentine, Honey for your Honey.  There's plenty of the ever popular local honey from Steffes/Wood Apiary in Alliquippa.
